Hi, My name is Sherry

My mom was 14 when she gave birth to me, I am now turning 19 this summer. I am a daughter of a teen mom, honestly my life has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, it is hard to be a daughter of a teen mum, you help raise her as much as she raises you. But I love my mom for making the decision to keep me. I'll be honest with those who are teen moms, your children will ask you a lot of painful questions, and it is hard at times I know I asked my mom a lot of questions that brought both of us to tears, but I always knew she loved me and that is what is important. We did fight a lot though, but thats normal lol. I congratulate all of you who are going threw with your pregnancy's because it takes a strong person to raise a child when you really are still a child (no offence ) When people ask me what it was like, I look at them and ask them what it was like for them to grow up in a \"normal\" home. My views on life are deffinatly differant then most teenagers that is for sure but other then that, I turned out fine contrary to popular belief.

Goodluck everyone and I hope you all reamain happy and healthy,

Sherry

I don't believe that \"age\" is as important of a factor in what kind of mother you will be or how it will affect your child's life. The kind of person you are, has much more of an impact on yours and your baby's life. I had my first child when I was 17 and my second child was born 3 weeks after my 19th birthday. They were my top priorty in life, and before I made ANY decision, I always asked myself how this would affect them. I can say that I am very proud of the end result! My 1st child is a 3rd grade school teacher and has her master's degree in educational administration. She's been married for over 4 years, and 7 months ago, they gave me my 1st grandchild. My grandson is now my #1 priorty in life! My second child is currently working on his master's degree in educational administration, and is a high school social studies teacher and football coach. He is currently waiting for his 1st child, a daughter, to be born in June. Yayyy! One of each for this grandma! Also, when I learned that I was pregnant at the age of 16, my boyfriend and I got married right away. It was rough at times, but we stuck it out for our children's sake. Now, we are about to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and we are head over heels in love! With both of our kids off on their own, we go on \"dates\" whenever we want, and never have to find a babysitter anymore!

MelRea, i liked what you said about how it takes a strong person to raise a baby when they are still a child themselves. It's nice to hear someone acknowledge that teen mothers are really strong people. And memaw, i really look up to you and the fact that you and your husband got married and stayed together. It really gives me hope for me and my boyfriend who plan on getting married, because there's so many people telling us that it will never work. It's helpful to know that even though the world is against teen mothers (and the dads too) that anything is possible. So to both of you: thank you.
